The full potential of digital PCR

Millions of Molecules. Millions of Questions.
It’s time to find your answer.

Technological innovations for the next stage of digital PCR

MillionMolecules is developing an innovative digital PCR (dPCR) system based on centrifugal microfluidics that enables the precise quantification of biomolecules such as DNA, RNA and proteins. Our aim is to combine the advantages of dPCR in terms of sensitivity and accuracy with the speed, price and workflow of quantitative PCR (qPCR), thus enabling users to easily switch from existing qPCR systems and setting a new technology standard. To enable this, digital PCR must have a high dynamic range comparable to that of qPCR. MillionMolecules achieves this through a high number of partitions of up to 1 million partitions per sample.

High Dynamic Range

through centrifugal-microfluidic filling with 10x number of reactions and up to 1,000,000 partitions per sample

Fully-fledged dPCR

at the price of qPCR

Short runtime

of less than 2 hours by fast signal generation through ultra-thin, micro-structured film

Highly automated

for high-throughput scenarios

What makes us different

With qPCR technologies

…you achieve a high dynamic range, comparable to the vastness of a night sky. However, this comes with the limitation of only relative quantification of molecules, resulting in a somewhat blurred image.

With digital PCR (dPCR) technologies

…you get crystal crisp images by absolute quantification. But current suppliers can only give you a fraction of the picture due to limited dynamic range.

Digital PCR by MillionMolecules…

…has the necessary high-dynamic-range technology to give you the whole picture – so you will never miss the target you are looking for.

Previous Projects and Timeline

2023 – 2026

Project EV-Surf (funded by BMBF)

The EV-Surf project is developing a dPCR-based blood test that uses extracellular vesicles to enable highly accurate, non-invasive early diagnosis of prostate cancer – with potential for many other types of cancer.

2023 – 2026

Project nanodiagBW (funded by BMBF)

As part of the BMBF initiative “Clusters4Future” the project nanodiagBW is working on innovative nanopore technologies for molecular diagnostics—from epigenetic analysis and single-molecule sensor technology to clinical applications and start-up support.

2025 – 2027

Project MillionMolecules (funded by BMWK & EU)

The MillionMolecules project is funded by the prestigious EXIST-Forschungstransfer grant to provide a proof-of-concept for our innovative dPCR technology and to demonstrate different use cases in a pilot study.

2026

Scheduled incorporation of MillionMolecules GmbH

The spin-off of the project MillionMolecules is intended to lay the foundation for an independent company offering an innovative system in the field of dPCR.
